All you need to make a collage is paper and some type of adhesive, and this makes it one of the most sustainable art forms. I save scrap paper, old magazines and newspapers, and all kinds of other things that would otherwise be thrown away. Sometimes, for an extra challenge, I take scraps from previous projects and cut them down to blocks of color rather than image elements. This lets me paint with the paper, and uses even more material that would've otherwise be thrown away. Playing around with different shapes of cut paper - long rectangles for the bananas and squares for the apples - emphasizes the shape of the fruit.
